On Saturday, August 28th, 2021 My-Con returned for the second time this year! The showing of attendees was considerably more than expected! Heroes and villains from anime and comics to gaming and film made appearances as hundreds of fans cosplayed their favorite characters.
There were three age-specific cosplay contests: kids (12 and under), teens (13-17), and adults (18+). From the tiniest infant to the most outrageous adult, it was an amazing people-watching event! Every entry in the kids division was awarded with a fun prize but also had an overall winner. The teens and adults each had an overall winner. These were chosen by a panel of judges comprising the founders of My-Con, some event volunteers, and a representative from Apoa (yours truly). Taken into account, was also audience reaction to each participant. My-Con is a great way dip your toes into the waters of cosplay contests, if you've never done one before. It's less about stringent rules and more about having fun...but there's always got to be a winner, so round of applause for these three...
Unfortunately, the Twelve and Under winner was disqualified due to age parameters but here are some great examples of the amazing participants who all won.
Winner of the Teens Division: Hawk from My Hero Academia
Winner of the Adult Division: [Creative spin on] Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas
In addition to Cosplay, the showroom was open displaying artists' works, crafts, a snack booth and a multitude of vendors to choose from. There was also a game room with electronic, board and card games to choose from, as well as a karaoke room to sing your heart out. The band, Raspberry Pie, also made an appearance sparking a full-fledged dance party among the attendees.
This Summer version of My-Con didn't incorporate panels or workshops but that will return for the regularly scheduled annual My-Con happening on March 26, 2022.
See ya there!
